Preparing to Leave

    Just one second ago, John was with all of his friends and family including his brand new granddaughter and the next he is aboard the ship of the man that betrayed them all.  Darby Glande had warned Spain of the colonists location and now he was just leaving them all.  He knew there was a great chance that nobody would even believe what he had to say.  I wonder what those emotions mixed together felt like for him.  He probably had not a single grain of hope left at that point.  He must have thought that would be the last time he ever saw those people he loved. 

    Just before he was heading for the ship, he told the colonists to  carve on the trees or doors of the houses where they were headed if they ever had to leave the island.  He also instructed the people to carve a cross over the name of the location if there was any danger thought to be involved.
