William Cecil, Lord Burghley
Why or Why Not Did They Do It?
POSSIBLY BECAUSE...
-William was the queen's oldest advisor
-Lawyer, treasurer
-Most people thought him to be very smart, brilliant, or a better word--genius.
-Could have done it because of his mastermind ability
-Allowed no distractions to his work--including jealousy or flirting with the queen
-Hired spies throughout the kingdom
-Very powerful
-ALTHOUGH DID NOT BECAUSE...
-Had no motive to go through with the sabotage of the colonists--he had the second wealthiest salary in all of England
-Wasn't jealous of Raleigh's wealth as he was wealthier
-Had a HUGE mansion so who else would he be jealous of?
-Was quite a good friend with Raleigh--even allowed him to use his magnificent library whenever Raleigh wanted to
-Also had hired a gardener to work with his wonderful gardens who was a very good friend of John White's
So Wait, Did He Do It or Not?
No, William Cecil did not plan the destroying of the Roanoke Colony.
